In 18th Century
Italy, France and England, many designers and artists created painted
furniture to coordinate with the specific decorative scheme of a room. When the walls were
decorated with polychromed motifs, the furniture often echoed similarly painted elements.
It is Zaccaria Designs' goal to reintroduce and renew this concept. Although
contemporary designers no longer adhere to this design concept, Zaccaria
Designs wants to show its clientele that individual pieces of painted furniture have great
relevance to modern rooms.
The painting technique used by Zaccaria Designs dates back to the ancient Egyptians,
who perfected the art of painting on wood. The method used is simple but effective.
First, we coat the wooden furniture with a thin layer of adhesive plaster; to this
absorbent surface we apply our pigments. In addition to plaster, natural products like
milk paint and bees wax are used. Our painted furniture collection combines the color and
vitality of paint with the three-dimensional form and texture of wood. Our unique pieces
prove that brilliant colors and intricate patterns can transform today's rooms into
harmonious environments of elegant beauty - painted furniture can continue to live on for
many years more.
